Mature adults quickly realize there is a seasonal aspect to wardrobe building. As a kid, maybe the family could only afford one or two different coats per child every couple of years. Adults can't wear the same dresses, suits, fabrics, colors, or coats season after season without also holding a certain level of unattractiveness. Help customers begin their seasonal wardrobes. Wholesale apparel stores should remind adult customers of the following spring "steals" that should be snatched soon!
Coats
Nothing thaws the prices of winter coats faster than warm weather. Spring is when big time coat manufacturers liquidate last fall and winter lines to make room for production of next years' looks. Liquidated leather coats, ski jackets, snow parkas, and trenches are always fashion staples. Nothing will stop the customer's friends and acquaintances from knowing if the coat was purchased in the height of last season, or procured through a stealthy sale at a wholesale outlet.
Men's and Women's Suits
Winter suit fabrics are the worst for prices because they are so heavy. Women need to be more careful about color selection, and stay away from bright or garish "in" colors that can just as quickly be "out." Simple and classy wholesale black, blue, brown, winter white, and gray suits are the safe bets. Wholesale suits are also an excellent way to entice customers to upsale with retail priced accessories, or sales priced companion items. Ties, dress shirts, and accessories are all great suggestions to add to the purchase.
Undergarments
Men and women both have a horrible habit of wearing undergarments until they literally fall apart. Shopping for them is slightly embarrassing, and they are easily relegated to the bottom of the wardrobe priority list since no one sees them during the day. The retail prices on items such as bras, underwear, boxers, and t-shirts is also significant enough today that these items are no longer impulse buys. Encourage your customers to stock up, buying almost twice the quantity for the same price with overstock undergarments. Socks and hosiery are other neglected apparel items in this category. Both are easily found from wholesale distributors to stock your shelves.
Swim Wear
Spring is also the perfect time to find name brand, and even designer swim wear at a fraction of the unit cost of the retail variety. Men and women alike can benefit from owning more than one pair of swimming trunks, or one type of bathing suit. First, customers have an easier time on vacation, or during any other part of summer, to have more than one swim suit. Familiar adage is to have one in the wash, one on the back, and one clean in the bag or drawer. Plus, once summer arrives, even wholesale distributors will raise prices slightly as demand increases. Nothing prevents a wholesale retailer from purchasing overstock and liquidated swim wear now, to mark up when the weather is scorching!
Remind customers of the seasonal nature of apparel by inviting them back for seasonal sales events. Try starting a guest book at your counter to offer a complimentary email when a new large shipment of discounted apparel arrives. Many stores offer frequent buyer cards or coupons, and the best ones are valid for a specific week period the following month from the purchase date. For example, a purchase made for $100 in February, would entitle the customer a coupon for $10 off a purchase of $50 or more in March. The trick to seasonal marketing is making sure you encourage your clientèle to also be seasonal shoppers, and keep them frequenting your store often!
